Man United expected XI vs Newcastle as Erik ten Hag drops Alejandro Garnacho with three changes
Erik ten Hag is expected to drop Alejandro Garnacho against Newcastle United as he makes three changes from the Manchester United XI that lost to Arsenal.
Manchester United will look to recover from back-to-back defeats as they welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Erik ten Hag‘s last two Premier League outings saw his side lose 4-0 to Crystal Palace and 1-0 against Arsenal. The club is now eighth in the table and has suffered a record 14th defeat in the league campaign.

However, they may be able to find some form of respite against Newcastle, with the defence predicted to be improved. André Onana will start in goal as always, but Willy Kambwala is expected to be reintroduced into the XI.
The young Frenchman would play alongside Jonny Evans, meaning the club would finally have two fit centre-backs, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right back and Diogo Dalot flanking on the left.
Kambwala’s reintroduction would then allow Casemiro to return to midfield to partner Kobbie Mainoo. Bruno Fernandes only just missed out on the Arsenal game due to injury and is expected to be back against Newcastle, should Ten Hag’s words be believed.
“Yesterday, Bruno trained for two days, but it was not far enough to recover from his injury to get back in the team,” Ten Hag said – he then added that Fernandes was almost ready.
Should Kambwala and Fernandes return to the team, this would see Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat return to the bench.
In attack, one more change is expected. Alejandro Garnacho, who has started the last 35 fixtures in a row for the team, should be given a rest ahead of the upcoming FA Cup final, and the tie against Newcastle would be an opportune moment to do so.
Marcus Rashford needs minutes ahead of the trip to Wembley, so it may be wise for Ten Hag to start the forward, assuming he’s fit, give him 60-odd minutes, and then bring Garnacho off the bench.
With no other striker available, Rasmus Højlund is set to start, with Amad once again on the right wing after he confirmed that his knee issue was nothing serious. Should Amad not start, it is expected that Antony will take his place.
Man United expected XI
Onana, Wan-Bissaka, Kambwala, Evans, Dalot, Casemiro, Mainoo, Fernandes, Amad, Højlund, Rashford.
