Manchester United are hoping they will be able to secure a £45 million buy option for Mathys Tel should they sign him on loan from Bayern Munich this window.

Manchester United are seeking attacking reinforcements as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.

United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per game. Their underwhelming performances at Old Trafford have only heightened concerns.

With uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, strengthening the attack has become a key priority ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite financial limitations, Amorim is expected to push the board to secure fresh attacking options to address United’s goal-scoring woes and inject new energy into the frontline.

United aiming for £45m Tel buy-option

The attacker who has been most closely linked to United in the last few days is Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.

Despite Tottenham agreeing a £50 million transfer with Bayern for the 19-year-old, Tel rejected the Premier League side’s wishes, with the player more interested in a move to Old Trafford.

UtdDistrict understands that, amid their discussions with Bayern over a potential loan move for the player this month, the club are aiming to secure a buy option worth £45 million within Tel’s proposed loan deal.

Although there is no guarantee that the Bundesliga club will accept this offer, given that they had already agreed to a £50 million fee with Tottenham earlier this week, United are hopeful that they can submit this as an official offer if club-to-club talks go as planned.

United optimistic they can secure Tel

Furthermore, UtdDistrict understands that United are optimistic that they will be able to bring in the French U21 international through the doors of Carrington on loan before the close of the winter window on 3 February.

United have further talks scheduled with Bayern Munich on Saturday and are hoping that they can submit an official loan offer for the player with said buy option by the end of the day.

Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl confirmed earlier this week that the player had asked to leave.

“We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself,” Eberl said.

“Now he says he wants to leave (…) There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”
