Manchester United told to ignore what “perfect” signing has just done and table £62.5m summer bid
Manchester United have been told they must ignore what one of their “perfect” signings has just done and table a £62.5 million bid for him in the summer.
Manchester United have been in search of attacking reinforcements as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.
United’s lack of firepower has been a persistent issue this season, with the team often failing to score more than once per match. Their disappointing form at Old Trafford has only added to growing concerns.
The club have offloaded multiple first-team forwards on loan this month, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the rest of the campaign.
However, United have yet to bring in any attacking replacements, with their only January additions so far being defensive reinforcements—left-back Patrick Dorgu arriving from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven signing from Arsenal.
United told to ignore Cunha’s new contract
One player who has been routinely linked to United due to his great performances across the board is Matheus Cunha, who has been a shining light for Wolves.
However, the Brazilian forward recently put pen to paper on a new four and a half year contract with the Molineux club, keeping him there until 2029.
Former United striker Michael Owen has surged the Old Trafford club to ignore the fact that Cunha has signed a new contract and sign him anyway as he would be “perfect” for Amorim’s system.
“The financial rules and regs will probably prevent it from being a possibility but Cunha would be the perfect signing @ManUtd,” Owen wrote on X. “He’s seriously good. And would fit perfectly into their new system.”
After he was reminded that Cunha had just signed a new contract, Owen explained that he doubts the 25-year-old will see out his deal, and that a buy-out clause could be triggered.
“Yes, that’s the one. Reckon he’ll see out his contract? Reckon there’s no buyout? He was tied in for the foreseeable future anyway,” Owen added. “May as well double his money in the meantime and still be in the same position if a big opportunity arises.”
Owen isn’t wrong. According to the Daily Mail, Cunha’s new contract includes a release clause of £62.5 million, which will be active from the summer transfer window onwards
Amorim addresses signing a new forward
Amorim himself has already explained that he knows his team needs to improve in attacking areas, and that the club are “trying everything” to sign a new forward in the winter window.
“We are trying everything to improve the team without making the mistakes of the past and also trying to balance the urgency of the moment,” the 40-year-old said last week.
“We know all of the aspects of our club in the moment but we are trying everything. This market is really hard on clubs to make some deals. I want to improve the team so badly.
“I know what the team needs. Sometimes it’s possible, sometimes it’s not. When the window closes we will see the players that we have.”
