“Close…” Manchester United handed major Mason Mount injury update ahead of Arsenal clash
Manchester United have been handed a significant update on the injury status of Mason Mount ahead of Rúben Amorim’s Premier League encounter against Arsenal.
Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United squad have been plagued by injuries in recent weeks, disrupting the team’s plans.
Lisandro Martínez was stretchered off against Crystal Palace earlier this month with a knee injury, later diagnosed as a ruptured ACL that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
Shortly after, Amad was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with an ankle injury, while Kobbie Mainoo is set to miss six weeks due to a calf problem.
Toby Collyer recently returned to the first team after almost a month out, but Manuel Ugarte and Harry Maguire were both ruled out of the fixture against Real Soceidad.
United handed major Mount update
One player who many were eager to see play under Amorim is Mason Mount, with many feeling that the English midfielder would thrive in one of the attacking No. 10 roles within the head coach’s formation.
However, after a few starts, Mount succumbed to a hamstring injury in December against Manchester City and has not played for two and a half months as he works on his rehabilitation.
It has been a frustrating period for the player since he signed from Chelsea in 2023, having missed more games through injury that then started for the club since he signed under Ten Hag.
However, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, although Mount did not travel to face Real Sociedad on Thursday, he is close to being fully recovered ahead of the club’s Premier League tie against Arsenal this weekend.
“I’m told Mount, having been possibly back at 10 weeks, is now expected to be out for the top end of his prognosis,” Whitwell explained in a recent question and answer session with United fans. “Should be getting close now.”
Why United need Mount back as soon as possible
Speaking soon after he initially joined United, Amorim was quick to single out Mount as a “proper footballer” in his current squad.

“He has proved he is a really talented player,” Amorim said of Mount in November. “He was a European champion, so we believe in him a lot. He has to stay fit and, like all the guys in the team, they are quality players, they have to improve and believe in themselves.
“On Thursday [vs Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League] he did a great job. You see some moments and details where you can see that Mason is a proper footballer. We believe in him a lot, and I especially believe a lot in Mason.”
With United barren for first-team attacking players, Mount is needed more than ever at the club. Højlund and Zirkzee have been suffering from a lack of players to link with and create, and Mount would be a perfect fit for the remainder of the campaign.
