How much Manchester United are set to make off Mason Greenwood as four European giants interested
The figure Marseille believe they may be able to sell Mason Greenwood for has been revealed as Manchester United are set to make a hefty profit from their former player.
Manchester United are looking to offload several players during the 2025 transfer windows as they aim to generate funds ahead during a time of little financial wiggle room.
Rúben Amorim’s team made a strong start to 2025, earning a draw against Liverpool, defeating Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup, and securing a 3-1 victory over Southampton, thanks to a dazzling 12-minute hat-trick from Amad.
However, their momentum was halted by a disappointing 3-1 loss to Brighton, dampening the mood around the squad, but a 2-1 win over Rangers has helped breathe some belief back into the side.
Despite urgent needs for reinforcements at left-back, in midfield, and in attack, United’s transfer activity has been slow so far as the club are in desperate need of securing cash before they can sign any players.
Greenwood may be another source of income
In the 2024 summer transfer window, the club sold multiple Academy players, which was fantastic for their financial books as all profits from sales of Academy graduates count as pure profit.
United made three major sales in Scott McTominay, Willy Kambwala, and Mason Greenwood, with the club making close to £60 million off the trio.
However, United also made a point to include a 50% sell-on clause in Greenwood’s sale to Marseille, which the Daily Mail has revealed could be set to make the club a further significant profit.
According to the report, with Greenwood having performed well so far across 2024/25 with 13 goals and 4 assists in 20 appearances, the Ligue 1 side now feel they can sell the player for double his £27.5 million purchase price in the summer, which would lead to a sale of above £55 million.
United’s sell-on clause means they may stand to make another £27.5 million from his sale, meaning the club will have pocketed a total of £55 million off the winger.
Four European giants circling Greenwood
Further, the Daily Mail report explains that Greenwood’s positive form at Marseille has led to four of Europe’s biggest clubs to keep tabs on him.
It is stated that all of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus are tracking his performances and would be interested in signing him.
This is not the first time that Barcelona or Juventus have been keen on the 23-year-old, with the Serie A side attempting to secure him on loan last summer while Barcelona reportedly offered him former star Lionel Messi’s No. 10 shirt.
With United in dire need of money, they are already set to receive £25 million later this year once Jadon Sancho’s loan move to Chelsea becomes permanent, and the sale of Greenwood would further help lift them out of financial trouble.
