Manchester United made two £25m decisions that may impact Marcus Rashford’s transfer stance

Marcus Rashford finally seems open to leaving Manchester United despite being at the club since the age of seven.

Manchester United are willing to sell their star man Marcus Rashford and he has admitted to being open to a ‘new challenge’.

Ruben Amorim has left him out of the squad for United’s last three fixtures, which included the Manchester Derby victory, and it seems like a matter of time until he departs.

Rashford, once a fan-favourite and extremely exciting player, has become somebody who many fans are eager to see leave the club.

McTominay and Sancho excelling away from United

In the most recent summer transfer window, several Reds were allowed to depart the club to allow space for new signings to be made.

Scott McTominay was sold to Italian club Napoli for around £25 million while Jadon Sancho left on an initial loan to Chelsea, who will be purchasing him permanently for £25m next summer.

The two players were often criticised for different things at Old Trafford. Fans believed McTominay had the heart and grit but lacked talent, while Sancho’s problems were the complete opposite.

One was described as the worst signing in the club’s history and the other was fortunate to make his way through the Academy into the first-team.

Yet, with both players now away from the United spotlight, they are excelling at their new clubs and proving many people wrong.

Sancho is becoming a key player for Chelsea as Enzo Maresca’s side sit second in the Premier League table. McTominay, meanwhile, has been crucial for Napoli, who are two points off top-spot in the Serie A.

Rashford influenced by McTominay and Sancho

Rashford was close to both Sancho and McTominay during their time at Old Trafford. He came through the ranks with the Scotsman and built a relationship with Sancho, initially in the England setup.

Perhaps seeing two of his close friends in football turn their fortunes around away from the club has influenced his decision to be open to pastures new.

We’re seeing a lot of talk about the player. He’s already past his best level, he’s not good enough for top teams. The same was said for others, such as McTominay and Sancho.

And while it has only been a handful of months, it seems likely that their success away from Old Trafford so far could have had an impact on Rashford.

At the age of 27, the United forward clearly still has ambitions in the game and maybe, after seeing the blueprint, he believes his best chance of fulfilling them will be elsewhere.

It is probably a good thing for player and club at this point, but questions need to be asked if there becomes a trend of underperforming talent excelling elsewhere.
