Manchester United have been called to terminate one star’s contract after his long-term injury issues persisted under Rúben Amorim just a month into his Old Trafford reign.

Manchester United, once ready to splash the cash under Erik ten Hag, are now shifting gears under their new coach, Rúben Amorim, who is working with a much stricter budget.

During the Dutchman’s tenure, the club spent over £600 million across five transfer windows, though many feel the returns on those investments have fallen short of expectations given the hefty outlay.

Under Amorim’s guidance, the need for reinforcements is already evident. A striker is a top priority, alongside a centre-back, a left-back, and possibly additional midfield options in the coming months.

To fund these moves, the club are reportedly planning to offload some of their valuable assets.

United called to terminate Shaw’s contract

Luke Shaw suffered yet another injury setback earlier this month after he played his first minutes of club football in eight months.

He came off the bench three times to play around 90 minutes of football across his appearances under Amorim but was ruled out with an injury earlier in December, causing a series of groans from supporters in what has become a recurring issue across the last decade with Shaw.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown has now called for the club to consider terminating his contract. The move would help United’s ability to stay within profit and sustainability rules and get around £150,000 a week of their current wage books.

“I keep coming back to this issue with Shaw,” Brown told FootballInsider. “They’re a far better team with him at left-back.

“But they know all about his injury situation and it’s gone on for far too long. So they’ve got to make a decision for the player, the club, and for England, about his future at Man United.

“They say it’s a half strain or a hamstring strain, but I’ve never seen a calf strain keep someone out for the amount of time he has been out for.

“But whatever the issue is, he’s not playing and he’s collecting a big wage which could be used to bring in a new player if they can get him off the books.

“It might be the best decision for them that they let him go, because we know they want to bring somebody else in in his position. It’s a difficult decision because everybody knows how good he can be when he’s fit.

“Then you’ve got the issue of finding a club who are willing to sign him knowing his history because it’s not like his contract is running out this season or anything.

“But if it becomes a possibility, I think they might have to move him on.”

United are keen to bring in a new left-back in 2025 and have been closely linked with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. There have also been rumours that United are eyeing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and AC Milan’s full-back Theo Hernandez.
