Erik ten Hag is expected to make three changes as Manchester United face Liverpool in their final pre-season fixture of the USA summer tour.

Manchester United have completed four pre-season fixtures in the summer of 2024, with one remaining. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg but bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Rangers in Scotland, with goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill. New signing Leny Yoro made his unofficial debut following his £52 million transfer from Lille.

In their first USA fixture, United faced Arsenal and lost 2-1 but gave fans something to cheer about by winning the pre-arranged penalty shootout 4-3. They then secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Real Betis in San Diego.

Next, United will conclude their USA pre-season tour by facing Liverpool at 00:30 BST on Sunday, 4 August, at the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina.

Although Tom Heaton started and played 90 minutes against Betis, Ten Hag is expected to replace the veteran keeper with André Onana as the club gear up for the Community Shield against Manchester City next Saturday.

In defence, no changes are expected. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the only senior full-back in the squad, will keep his place at right-back, while Harry Amass, who has impressed fans in recent weeks, will continue on the left flank.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf, who both started against the La Liga outfit on Wednesday evening, will almost certainly continue as the two central defenders.

Ten Hag is expected to make two more changes in midfield. After drawing a lot of criticism last campaign, Casemiro performed well in San Diego and is expected to keep his place against Liverpool.

However, Mason Mount and Toby Collyer, who have been two of the club’s brightest sparks this summer, are likely to return to the team, replacing Scott McTominay and Christan Eriksen.

In attack, Ten Hag may well keep the same front three that started against Betis, with the Dutch manager keeping one eye on who will start against City in seven days’ time.

Although Marcus Rashford came off with an injury, he was pictured in training with the group, so he is assumed to be fine and could, therefore, start. Jadon Sancho, who performed well as a false nine, may also retain his place.

Amad Diallo, one of United’s most exciting talents on tour, is expected to keep his position on the right wing – he is the favourite to start on the right flank once the 2024/25 season kicks off.

Man United expected XI

Onana, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelöf, Maguire, Amass, Casemiro, Collyer, Mount, Rashford, Sancho, Amad.
