Manchester United star at risk of suspension ahead of Rúben Amorim’s first game
One Manchester United star is at risk of being suspended for Rúben Amorim’s first game as the club’s new head coach.
Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new Head Coach after Erik ten Hag‘s departure from Old Trafford.
Despite extending ten Hag’s contract in the summer, poor performances this season left United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League and 15th in the Europa League, resulting in his departure last week. United moved swiftly to secure Amorim as his replacement.

Amorim is set to officially take charge on 11 November, with his first game scheduled for 24 November, away against Ipswich Town.
However, before this can happen, United have one final game as Ruud van Nistelrooy takes charge of his fourth as interim manager, against Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
A suspension risk
One of Amorim’s future players is at risk of being suspended for the 39-year-old’s first game in charge due to his number of yellow cards accumulated so far in the Premier League.
Lisandro Martínez received four in the competition against Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea. However, the ones against Crystal Palace and Chelsea admittedly could have passed the red card threshold for dangerous and reckless play.
Should he receive a fifth against Leicester, he would be suspended for the tie against Ipswich Town, as any player who accumulates five yellow cards in the competition before the 20th game of the season will serve a one-game ban.
It should also be noted that Kobbie Mainoo also has four yellow cards in the Premier League, but he will not return from injury until after Amorim takes charge, meaning he will be immediately available for the new head coach.
United’s card problem
This season, United have suffered from a fairly regular card problem. As mentioned above, Martínez has already submitted multiple challenges that could be deemed red cards, but Bruno Fernandes has also received two himself.
Although his first one, against Tottenham, was overturned, his second, against FC Porto, was not. In general, United have received 32 in the Premier League alone, averaging 3.2 per game in the competition so far.
It is a discipline problem that Amorim will have to sort out once he takes control of the squad. United have several players who are often carded, such as Martínez, Casemiro, and Diogo Dalot, and it must be said that some of these are incorrect.
However, the club’s players must be careful to avoid suspensions throughout the season.
