Manchester United handed Lisandro Martínez injury boost as expert verdict given
Manchester United have been handed a significant boost in relation to the long-term injury Lisandro Martínez’s suffered earlier this month.
In the last few weeks, Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United squad have been hit with a number of major injury problems that has thrown the squad into disarray.
Against Crystal Palace earlier this month, Lisandro Martínez was stretchered off toward the end of the tie after hurting his knee, with it later being revealed that he had ruptured his ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Later in the month, news then broke that Amad had suffered an ankle injury and would be unavailable for the rest of the campaign, while Kobbie Mainoo would be out for six weeks following a calf problem.
Toby Collyer has also been absent for the last few weeks, while Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have both been unavailable for a significant period of time with no set dates for their returns.
United handed Martínez injury boost
Martínez has caused worry among fans across the last few seasons, with this set to be the fourth time in three years that the player will spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines.
The Argentina international will miss the start of next campaign as well the remainder of this season, with a potential return date set as late as November, the club have been dealt some comparatively good news.
Fans have been worried about how the number of long-term injuries could affect his abilities once he returns, but according to football injury expert Ben Dinnery, the current problem should not have any affect on his long-term football prowess.
“When it comes to a player like Lisandro Martinez, you really need to look at the type of injuries he’s suffering,” Dinnery told Encyclopedia Dramatica. “He’s just suffered an ACL setback, and prior to that, he’s had a fractured metatarsal and an MCL injury. It’s not like he’s suffered a lot of muscle injuries, which would be more of a red flag.
“If you were to look at Martinez’s general injury history, then he wouldn’t by high on my list of players at risk of further injuries. However, we do know that players coming back from long layoffs and returning to the team will be more susceptible to picking up soft tissue and muscle problems as the intensity increases.
“It’s going to be a long recovery for him, but hopefully he’ll be back to his best once he’s back in the team.”
Martínez’s injury is handing Yoro a chance
The one positive that has come from Martínez’s injury, although small considering that his loss is such a significant one, is that it is allowing Leny Yoro to thrive.
After the 19-year-old suffered his own long-term injury at the start of the campaign, the club were slow to bring him into the fold, with Yoro often only starting one in every three or four appearances.
However, with Martínez out, he has since filled that left centre-back slot on multiple occasions, and has excelled every time.
There is an argument to be made that Yoro’s best performance yet in a United shirt came against Ipswich Town in midweek, with the player producing an almost flawless defensive display at Old Trafford.
Although Martínez is sorely missed in the back line, Yoro has done a fantastic job of replacing him.
