Owen Hargreaves and Peter Crouch both agree on how “exceptional” a Manchester United star has been this season.
Manchester United snatched a 2–2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in a spirited Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring after 30 minutes, heading in Amad’s precise cross to give Rúben Amorim’s side a deserved lead at the break. Tottenham grew into the game after half-time, forcing Senne Lammens into several key saves before Brennan Johnson had a goal ruled out for offside.
Substitute Mathys Tel finally brought Spurs level seven minutes from time, and the hosts looked to have completed the turnaround when Richarlison struck deep into stoppage time.
But United refused to fold, and Matthijs de Ligt powered home a stoppage-time header to earn Amorim’s side a dramatic share of the points in North London.
Mbeumo is like a “killer”
Mbeumo has undoubtedly been one of the signings of the summer, let alone one of the star players for Amorim this season.
Normally playing off the right, he showed his versatility today. The Cameroonian started on the left, where he scored his goal, but then floated across the front three to cause more trouble for the defence.
Speaking after the game to TNT Sports, Peter Crouch gave a raving account of Mbeumo’s performance.
“He’s a killer. He’s a danger. He’s sharp with his touches. I thought today he was playing right in front of us here. And he’s so sharp. And I think when he gets a chance, invariably, he finishes,” he said.
“He’s cold in front of the goal. And I think he’s been such a big addition to what Manchester United are trying to do this season.”
Owen Hargreaves agreed with his colleague’s account of Mbeumo’s display today, comparing him to the living Premier League legend, Mohammed Salah. The former United midfielder said, “He reminds me a little bit of Mo Salah around the box when he gets it.
“He has a clear picture of exactly what he wants, whether the finish near the post or the back post. He almost shows no emotion. It’s just like business in and around the box, and I love that, you know, you can play into his feet.
“Technically, I don’t think he gets enough credit. People talk about his goals for rightly so, but he’s an exceptional football player, and look, he just stands there really chill.
“You know, people have come to Manchester United, huge names and struggle with the pressure, he just hits that super calm, super chill top scorer this season.”
The attack is beginning to click
For the past two seasons, Manchester United have had the brunt of the attacking burden fall on the shoulders of Bruno Fernandes. If he was not scoring or assisting, it was difficult to see where the goals would come.
This season so far has been a breath of fresh air.
Mbeumo has been the standout, but the likes of Matheus Cunha and Amad have shown flashes of brilliance in recent times, with the latter assisting Mbeumo. More so in the case of Cunha, his performances have been superb but without any goal contributions until recently.

Mason Mount has been in and out of the team, but has equally stepped up when needed and contributed, showing that the goals can be spread across the attack without relying solely on Fernandes to carry the entire team.
