46 touches, 2 G/A – Rúben Amorim handed transfer verdict on “quality” star who passed Manchester United audition
Rúben Amorim has been handed a transfer verdict on a “quality” Premier League player who stunned Manchester United fans at Old Trafford earlier this season.
Manchester United are expected to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle for consistency in front of goal.
With the exception of Bruno Fernandes, United’s forward line has underperformed throughout the season, often failing to convert chances. Their patchy home form at Old Trafford has only added to the growing concerns.
In the previous transfer window, the club sent several first-team forwards out on loan—Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.
Despite these departures, no attacking replacements were brought in, leaving fans frustrated. The only January arrivals were left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
United handed Mitoma transfer verdict
With Amorim looking to add to his attacking line, it is likely they will look for players to fill both the striker position and the spaces in wide attacking midfield.
Former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet has had his say on Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, who has the “quality” to play for Manchester United and should be given the chance to take a step up to Old Trafford.
“In terms of quality, he’s good enough for Manchester United,” Poyet recently explained. “The question is, can he take the next step and perform at an even higher level, as a club like United demands?
“He’s a top player, and I hope he does because he’s so important to Brighton. I love watching him play.”
Mitoma passed his Old Trafford audition this season
Earlier this season, Mitoma wowed United fans as Brighton thumped Amorim’s side 3-1 at Old Trafford.
Despite having the fewest touches of any outfield player to play 90 minutes on the day with just 46, he showed his efficiency as he grabbed himself a goal and assist, earning an 8.5/10 rating from FotMob.

Mitoma was a constant nuisance during the Premier League fixture and showed his direct pace and skill, with his efficiency on the ball a trait that many of United’s current players have lacked in recent months.
With the Japanese international putting on a fantastic display in front of Amorim, there is little doubt that he will be one of many names United will look at ahead of the summer window.
However, the club may have to cough up significant funds to secure him after Brighton rejected a £75 million bid for Mitoma in January from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.
