One Manchester United insider has revealed a new trait he is seeing develop within Bryan Mbeumo during his opening months at the club.
Bryan Mbeumo has been a standout player since his move from Brentford to Manchester United in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Signing for Rúben Amorim’s squad for an initial £65 million fee with a further £6 million in performance-related add-ons, Mbeumo hit the ground running with great performances in pre-season and a solid first competitive outing against Arsenal.
Since then, he has gone on to score five goals and register one assist in his opening 11 appearances for the club, gelling firmly with the likes of Amad, Benjamin Šeško, and Bruno Fernandes.
Mbeumo has arrived alongside Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, bought for £62.5 million, to help spearhead Amorim’s new attacking line.
Mbeumo is a different player on the pitch
When Mbeumo first arrived, he explained in his initial interview with the club that he is a fairly reserved and quiet individual, which contrasts with Cunha. The latter has quickly become one of the most popular members of the changing room with his loud and joyful personality.
The two players are opposite types off the field, but on the pitch, both are becoming very vocal, which has come as a bit of a surprise to MUTV commentator Liam Bradford. Speaking on the Inside Carrington podcast, Bradford noted how vocal Mbeumo had been on the pitch.
“Matheus Cunha comes in, and he’s big, and he’s full of life, and he’s always smiling, and he’s clearly become a really popular member of the dressing room through his sort of outgoing nature,” the commentator started.
“Bryan Mbeumo’s come in and maybe has ingratiated himself in a different way. He’s quiet, he goes about his business really sensibly, but on the pitch, he’s the one you can hear shouting.
“I heard him screaming against Nottingham Forest about something that hadn’t gone his way, and I thought to myself, ‘Well, you don’t get that off the field’. As soon as he crosses the white line, it turns into something different.”
Mbeumo’s could become United’s best-ever big-money signing
Over the last decade, United have sunk hundreds of millions into big-money talent, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, and Antony joining for fees well in excess of £75 million.
However, the track record of United’s big-money transfers has been rather disappointing, with even young stars such as Rasmus Højlund being shipped out within two years of joining for high fees.
Mbeumo is different. Despite his £65 million fee, there has been minimal talk of the cost of his move, which is always a fantastic indication of how well a player has proved themselves during the early months of their time at a club.
The Cameroon international has slotted straight into the side as a player who looks as if he’s had the United badge on his chest his whole career, and will no doubt be a strong force both off and on the pitch for years to come.
