Manchester United injury scare proves Rúben Amorim’s “new Rolls Royce” must start vs Ipswich Town
Following Manchester United’s latest injury scare, Rúben Amorim must look to start the club’s “new Rolls Royce” against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United are yet to win a Premier League match this month but will aim to change that when they welcome Ipswich Town to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Their last league outing ended in a 2-2 draw at Everton, where second-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte secured a point after another slow start.
United’s tendency to begin games sluggishly has been a recurring issue, often forcing them to chase results after conceding early.
With just two clean sheets in all competitions this season, defensive frailties remain a concern. However, facing an Ipswich side struggling in the relegation zone, Amorim will be eager for his team to assert control and tighten up at the back.
United dealt fresh injury scare
Against Everton, some were surprised to see that Noussair Mazraoui was taken off in the 70th minute and replaced by Leny Yoro, with Amorim swapping his centre-backs despite United chasing a winning goal.
Mazraoui started on the right side of the back three, with Harry Maguire in the middle and Matthijs de Ligt operating as the left centre-back.
However, subsequent reports have now revealed that the club are “sweating” that the Morocco international has sustained an injury to his knee.
According to the latest news, the club are planning on subjecting Mazraoui to medical tests on Monday afternoon before assessing if he will be available to play against Ipswich.
Amorim must start his “new Rolls Royce”
Yoro, who has been dubbed as the club’s “new Rolls Royce” following the departure of Raphaël Varane, who previously owned that tag, must start against Ipswich. Mazraoui’s potential injury only reinforces this.
Yoro likely did not start against Everton as he may not have been entirely fit, having missed the Tottenham game the week prior due to illness. Still, with Mazraoui out, Amorim can play three centre-backs in more familiar roles.

De Ligt had a horror game against Everton and was lucky not to be punished for pulling Ashley Young back for a penalty in the final moments, and he looked uncomfortable playing as a left centre-back.
On the other hand, Yoro has already explained that he enjoys playing as a left-sided defender, and should Mazraoui be unavailable, Yoro can slip into De Ligt’s role with the Netherlands international playing on the right.
Maguire should remain in the middle as he looks most comfortable there, while De Ligt has played well on the right of the three. With Mazraoui potentially out of action, starting Yoro allows Amorim to play his best available back three in comfortable positions.
