The latest on all Manchester United’s injuries as Rúben Amorim prepares his side to face Leicester City in the FA Cup on Friday evening.

Manchester United are returning to the FA Cup for the fourth round of the competition as they face Premier League side Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The fixture marks the return of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who managed United for four games following Erik ten Hag’s sacking before Rúben Amorim took over. After leaving United, the Dutchman took a job as manager of Leicester City.

United’s last fixture in the competition was intense, with Amorim’s men facing Arsenal away from home. The Reds scored first through Bruno Fernandes, but Arsenal equalised after Diogo Dalot was sent off, with the tie stretching to 120 minutes before United won on penalties thanks to Altay Bayındır heroics.

The club won five of their seven fixtures in January but recently fell to a disappointing 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. However, the Leicester City tie represents the perfect chance to bounce back.

Below, UtdDistrict have summarised what has been said about the four United stars who have been unavailable for Amorim in recent weeks due to injury, including possible return dates

Luke Shaw

What happened: In early December, it was revealed that Luke Shaw had suffered a “small” injury set-back in training after coming off the bench three times for Amorim, but he has since been out for two months with injury.

Shaw was pictured back in training last week.

What was said: “It will take a little bit more time,” Amorim said last week. “I think he needs to train more, to spend more time with his teammates playing as normal, even small sided games. Not just working alone.

“He stayed [in Manchester last week] to do a different type of work. He’s going to get together with the team when we arrive [back in Manchester]. And start from there. When I feel it is the right moment, we will start with some minutes in the games.”

Possible return date: 7 February vs Leicester City

Mason Mount

What happened: Mason Mount started against Manchester City during a fixture in December but had to be substituted after 15 minutes due to a hamstring problem.

What was said: “Several weeks,” Amorim said in December when asked how long Mount would be out for. “I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football and you continue.”

Possible return date: Further news explained that it is likely Mount will not be back until March, depending on his rehabilitation.

Lisandro Martinez

What happened: In the 82nd minute of United’s recent loss against Crystal Palace, Lisandro Martínez went down with a knee problem and had to be stretchered off after a battle with the ball for Ismaïla Sarr.

What was said: “Lisandro Martínez had a rupture of the cruciate ligaments, so he will not be able to play more in what is left of this European season,” Argentinian reporter Gaston Edul clarified on X.

“He will return after half a year, there are approximately between six and eight months of recovery depending on each one.”

Possible return date: November 2025.
