Rúben Amorim has been handed a triple boost as Manchester United prepare to take on Liverpool away from home in the Premier League.

Manchester United will be kick-starting their 2025 with what will probably be their most challenging fixture of the season as they travel to face Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

While Arne Slot’s men are flying high in the competition, United are sitting 14th in the table, just seven points ahead of the relegation zone, with Rúben Amorim admitting that the club are in one of the darkest moments of their recent history.

United have lost five of their last six fixtures in the competition, with three of those coming at home against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Newcastle United, while the side have also been defeated by Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home.

However, despite being unlikely, a win for United would do wonders to help the side forget what has been a disastrous 2024 as they look for a fresh start.

Amorim handed triple boost ahead of Liverpool

Amorim will have almost a full week to train with his squad for the first time since he took over from Erik ten Hag, which is a huge boost for the Reds.

The new head coach has been quick to point out that he has only had four full training sessions with his entire squad in the six weeks he has joined, which has meant he’s been unable to guide his team through the change in system since he joined.

After the Liverpool tie, he also has a further week to work with the squad before their fixture against Arsenal.

Amorim is also boosted by the returns of Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte after the midfield pair both served one-game bans as the side faced Newcastle earlier this week.

However, he will remain without a few players, with Victor Lindelöf, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount all sidelined through injury.

There is a lack of clarity surrounding when the former pair will rejoin training, but Mount is not expected to be back in action until March 2025.
