Martínez, Dalot, Amad: Manchester United injury news vs Southampton (Premier League)
All of Manchester United’s latest injury news as Rúben Amorim prepares his side to face Southampton in the Premier League on Thursday evening.
Manchester United have started 2025 on a positive note, recovering from a tough end to 2024 when they endured four consecutive defeats across all competitions.
Rúben Amorim’s side demonstrated their fighting spirit with a strong Premier League display in a 2-2 draw against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield. They then advanced in the FA Cup with a thrilling victory over Arsenal, where Altay Bayındır’s penalty shootout heroics stole the show.
Currently 13th in the Premier League, United will welcome rock-bottom Southampton to Old Trafford on Thursday evening for their first home fixture of the year. The match kicks off a vital three-game home run, offering a chance to build momentum.
With two weeks of intensive training under their belts, fans are hopeful that the team will begin to show a clearer identity and greater consistency as the season progresses.
United’s latest injury news round-up
United will be without a few players for their trip to Southampton. Ahead of the Arsenal tie, Amorim confirmed that, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount would all be out for the game.
However, the 39-year-old did explain that both Shaw and Lindelöf are nearing their returns, but did not offer much in the way of Evans.
Mount is expected to be out until March 2025 after suffering a hamstring problem against Manchester City last month.
Star forward Amad was on the bench against Arsenal after Amorim confirmed the 22-year-old was carrying a slight knock, although he came on and played 40 minutes while also burying his penalty in the shootout, suggesting he is fine to play.
During the Arsenal game, it was noticed that Lisandro Martínez was instructed to play up front during the latter stages of the tie, with some worrying that this was due to an injury, although subsequent reports have pointed to the fact that it’s likely to have just been a cramp problem.
“Harry was sick in the last game,” Amorim said on Wednesday afternoon. “He was dead in the end – and that’s what I want from every player.
“[Playing against Southampton?] Harry, we will see. We cannot lose him, so we will see. Martinez, I think, is okay.”
“Luke Shaw is nearer than Mason Mount,” declared Amorim. “Mason Mount will take a little bit longer. Luke, we’ll see in the next week or two. We’ll see if he’s returning.”
Diogo Dalot is suspended against Southampton following his red card at the Emirates Stadium on the weekend. He will serve a one-game ban and will be back and available to face Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.
