Rúben Amorim has admitted the latest on Luke Shaw and Mason Mount as Manchester United face Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United are returning to FA Cup duty as they welcome Fulham to Old Trafford in the fifth round of the competition, with the two sides set for a Sunday afternoon clash.

So far in the FA Cup, United have dispatched Arsenal via a tense penalty shootout after at 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium before knocking Leicester City out with a 2-1 victory thanks to an injury-time winner from Harry Maguire.

Rúben Amoirm’s men are entering the Fulham fixture coming off the back of a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League, although they left critics far from convinced after yet another sloppy defensive display.

With the club sitting 14th in the league table, winning the FA Cup is the only realistic route they have to qualify for the Europa League next season, assuming they don’t win the European competition itself this year and qualify for next campaign’s Champions League.

United’s latest injury news

Earlier this week, there was an injury scare that saw the club sweating over the fitness of Noussair Mazraoui, although calms were eased among fans once he was spotted arriving at Old Trafford with the squad to face Ipswich.

Mazraoui was afforded a place on the bench for the game but had to come on once Patrick Dorgu was sent off towards the end of the first half.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon, Amorim admitted in his recent press conference that he does not know when either Luke Shaw or Mason Mount will be able to return to action. However, the one update he did give was that he thinks Mount is closer to returning than his compatriot.

Previous reports from the time Mount was injured, toward the beginning of December, put his spell on the sidelines at around three months, which sets his return at some point in the next few weeks.

Altay Bayındır has been working hard behind the scenes ahead of a hopeful return to the squad soon, while Kobbie Mainoo is not expected back until the end of March at the earliest.

Toby Collyer is scheduled to return in the coming weeks, although an exact date is yet to be given.

Amad and Lisandro Martínez are both ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to respective ankle and knee issues, while Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton have not been spotted in over a month.

Dorgu will miss three domestic matches due to his red card against Ipswich, the first of which is against Fulham. However, he is eligible to play against Real Sociedad in the Europa League next week.
