Manchester United latest injury news vs Leicester City as Ruud van Nistelrooy receives fresh blow
Ruud van Nistelrooy has received a fresh blow as Manchester United prepare to face Leicester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Manchester United are set to face Leicester City in the Carabao Cup’s fourth round, coming right after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal as manager.
For now, former United star and Ten Hag’s assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has been named interim manager as the club searches for a new permanent leader.

Van Nistelrooy will be in charge for the upcoming match against Leicester, although the duration of his interim role remains uncertain as the club look to bring in Sporting’s Rúben Amorim as the new permanent boss as soon as they can.
United earned their place in this round with an impressive 7-0 victory in the previous match, in what was the first trophy Ten Hag won with the club back in 2023.
Fresh injury blow
Ahead of the tie, before the club announced his sacking, Ten Hag explained to the press that Luke Shaw had suffered an injury set back.
“The process is not going as we expected, that’s the truth,” the Dutchman said. “The setback, if you want to call it like this, yes. But we want also to do it very careful.
“When he is now dropping again, we run the wrong process, we want to be very careful. We know his past, we have to do this right, because we want him to be available, because he will have a big impact on our performances and also on our levels.
“We can’t have him playing for some games and then drop out again. So, we will do it very carefully.”
Meanwhile, Ten Hag also confirmed that he did not expect any currently injured players to return for the Leicester City tie.
This means that Van Nistelrooy will be in his defensive department without Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire, and Shaw.
In midfield, the Dutch interim manager will be without Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer, Mason Mount, and Dan Gore, while winger Antony continues to recover from an ankle injury sustained last week.
A fresh report has also stated that Christian Eriksen has had to pull out of the squad due to an injury.
Positive news
The positive news is that the club sustained no further injuries against West Ham. Rasmus Højlund is now fully fit and firing, while Alejandro Garnacho seems fine despite suffering from a knee issue just before the international break.
With United facing Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, it is expected that Van Nistelrooy may rotate the side that faced West Ham in a bid to keep his players fresh.
There could be starts or debuts for academy players, with Jack Fletcher, Harry Amass, and Ethan Wheatley having been involved in recent squads.
