Man Utd hit with further injury blow vs West Ham as star ‘signals injury’ before coming off

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United could have a serious problem after a crucial player signaled that he was injured before being subbed off against West Ham United.

Manchester United continued their inconsistent form as they had to settle for a point against 18th place West Ham United.

Ruben Amorim’s men started the game slowly, but grew into the game and were able to put the Hammers under significant pressure for sustained periods.

That hard work eventually paid off as Diogo Dalot put the Reds ahead in the second half. United couldn’t find a second goal, though, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side found a late equaliser through Soungotou Magassa.

United made a desperate late effort to restore their lead, but couldn’t as West Ham held firm to leave Old Trafford with a deserved point.

Dalot signals injury before substitution

Diogo Dalot, who scored United’s only goal of the night, was subbed off in the 68th minute after reportedly signalling to the bench that he had picked up an injury.

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, who has been heavily criticised by both fans and the media in recent times, replaced the Portuguese international. Dorgu struggled to make any impact of note.

Dalot has been a crucial player during Amorim’s tenure so far, and has featured in 12 out of 14 Premier League games this season. Amorim will therefore be hoping that this injury isn’t anything serious.

Dalot is an excellent athlete and is one of United’s most reliable players in terms of fitness, but the wing-back position is physically very demanding. It therefore probably wouldn’t come as a surprise if this knock is somewhat serious.

Dalot would be major loss if the injury is serious

There aren’t many Manchester United fans who rate Diogo Dalot highly, but the fact is he is a very good footballer who Amorim needs.

He’s reliable, is a leader and is also versatile as he can play on both sides. He is one of United’s better athletes and he is technically elite, although his current role doesn’t get the most out of that skillset.

With Amad set to depart to the African Cup of Nations soon, Amorim would have an alarming lack of options at right-wing back if Dalot is sidelined for a lengthy period.

Noussair Mazraoui could play there, but has also had injury issues this season and isn’t suited to the wing-back role. The Moroccan doesn’t have the engine for that role and is a lot better at right centre-back, where his on-ball qualities are maximised.
