Rúben Amorim has been handed a brutal verdict as Manchester United’s stars were ripped into despite the Europa League victory against FCSB on Thursday evening.

Manchester United ended the league phase of their Europa League campaign with a professional 2-0 victory over FCSB, as Rúben Amorim’s side saw out a tense encounter in Romania to secure progression to the knockout rounds.

United started with intent, looking to control the game early on. Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Højlund were lively in attack, making dangerous runs, but despite some promising openings and a strong chance for the Danish striker, the Reds went into half-time without a breakthrough.

At the start of the second half, Amorim made two changes, introducing Amad and Alejandro Garnacho in place of Toby Collyer and Tyrell Malacia. Garnacho almost made an immediate impact, striking the post within minutes of coming on.

The breakthrough finally came on the hour mark, as Diogo Dalot arrived at the back post to finish off a well-worked move, with Mainoo supplying the assist. The young midfielder then turned goalscorer himself, showing composure to slot home United’s second of the night.

With a two-goal cushion and full control of the match, United expertly saw out the remaining minutes, keeping a clean sheet and confirming their place in the Europa League knockout rounds after finishing third in the league.

United ripped into for being a “very poor” side

However, despite the win in Romania and fourth European victory in a row for United, former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage had some choice words to say about the players within the club he supports.

Reacting to the result alongside former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves, TNT Sports anchor Jules Breach asked Savage if he has been disspaointed with the performances under Amorim so far.

The style of football, I don’t think they’ve got the players to do that,” he replied. “You know, is Bruno a six, is he a ten? You know, he chops and changes. You know, the goal against Rangers, he come in from the right-hand side with a great finish. I think he starts as a ten tonight.

“Owen’s right. The amount of goals in that team, you look at the wing-backs. I’m glad Dalot’s on the right. When he plays on the left, he comes inside and looks to put balls on his right foot in. So on the right, maybe get balls into the box. Malacia on the left-hand side.

“Collyer and Mainoo, I’m not sure there’s many goals there. So that team lacks creativity, except for the two tens.

“And Højlund, I think he’s got five in this competition, but in the Premier League, only two in 18. So, you know, the service in team needs to be better, but there’s an argument to say, can Højlund do better?

“Just hold up play. He was running behind. So I think a lack of creativity and a lack of goals, I think it’s a really poor Manchester United side.”

Amorim handed brutal 3/10 verdict

Further, Savage was asked to rate Amorim’s tenure as Manchester United head coach so far out of ten, to which he replied with a brutal claim.

Savage explained that despite the excellent performances and results away from home against big sides such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, other fixtures have left Amorim with a 3/10 rating during his opening two and a half months at the club.

“The big games, City, done well. Arsenal, done well. Liverpool, down well. I’ll say a three,” Savage said.

However, there have been more positive signs in 2025. Of the seven games he has undertaken, United have won five of them, drawing against Liverpool and their only loss coming against Brighton at Old Trafford.
