One Manchester United star has found his perfect role under Rúben Amorim following a thrilling 2-2 draw against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton, with second-half strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte salvaging a point for Rúben Amorim’s side at Goodison Park.

Everton came out with intensity, pressing United aggressively, and their pressure paid off after 20 minutes when Beto punished poor defending to net his fifth goal in four matches. Just ten minutes later, Abdoulaye Doucouré muscled past Harry Maguire to fire home a rebound after André Onana’s initial save, putting United in serious trouble before the break.

United emerged stronger in the second half but still struggled to impose themselves. However, with 20 minutes left, Bruno Fernandes injected hope into the visitors with a sensational free-kick that curled past the goalkeeper. Minutes later, Manuel Ugarte completed the comeback with a superb strike, setting up a gripping finale.

The drama didn’t end there—Matthijs de Ligt brought down Ashley Young in the box, seemingly handing Everton a late penalty. But after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, ensuring United held on for a battling point.

Garnacho has a perfect role under Amorim

Many were surprised to see Alejandro Garnacho named on the bench considering that he was United’s best attacking threat last time out, but he was still given 30 minutes of action.

He was very much a difference-maker and catalyst for United’s comeback in the second half, and although he did not register a goal involvement, his other statistics make for positive viewing.

Garnacho completed all 15 of his attempted passes, as well as his one attempted dribble and one attempted long ball. Although he didn’t create any direct chances, he still had 23 touches and allowed Fernandes the opportunity to play deeper, which changed the game.

Although he would have no doubt been disappointed not to start, coming off the bench and making an impact through adding a fresh dynamic may be the perfect role for him under Amorim as the side look to fix their poor form.

Amorim addresses Garnacho bench decision

Amorim was asked about why Garnacho did not start, to which the head coach explained that it was simply a decision taken because he felt the young winger was best suited to coming off the bench.

“There are some games that are different, and we want different things in the same position, so that’s all,” Amorim explained in his post-match press conference.

“Garnacho will be ready for the next game, and it’s a good thing to be disappointed, but like I said, we have a lot of games.

“In modern football, you don’t have a starting eleven. It’s really hard, especially now. So, we have a squad that we have to rotate the players, and I imagine the game, and then I imagine the characteristics of the players to try to win the game.

“And today, the game, I think we… I thought the game in a different way, to have Garnacho on the bench to change something.”
