The full details as Manchester United are drawn against Real Sociedad in the Europa League round of 16 as their potential quarter-final opponents are confirmed.

Manchester United will face Real Sociedad in the Europa League round of 16 as Rúben Amorim aims to win his first trophy as head coach of the Old Trafford club.

United drew their opening three games in the competition under Erik ten Hag as they faced FC Twente, FC Porto, and Fenerbahce, but once Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed caretaker manager, they won their first in the competition, defeating PAOK.

Then, when Amorim took over, the club started to rise in the table, winning their final four games in a row against Bodo/Glimt, FC Plzen, Rangers, and FCSB.

The club finished third in the Europa League table, meaning they skipped the qualification round for the knockout stage, where they will now play Real Sociedad.

The Spanish team cruised past FC Midtjylland 7-3 on aggregate after finishing 13th in the league phase.

Where and when are the games being held?

The first leg of the Europa League fixture will be away from home, with United travelling to San Sebastián. The second leg will then be played at Old Trafford, where United will hope they can seal qualification to the next round.

The first leg is due to kick off on Thursday 6 March, with Old Trafford hosting the second half of the match up one week later.

Who could United play in the quarter-final?

During the draw, the route to the final, which is being held at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, was also drawn out.

Should United defeat Real Sociedad, they will then play either FCSB or Olympique Lyon in the quarter-final, depending on who wins that respective fixture.

The other teams on the United side of the competition’s knockout phase are AS Roma, Athletic Bilbao, Rangers, and Fenerbahce.
