Manchester United’s signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are two of the best pieces of business the club have engaged in for years.
Manchester United’s summer transfer window has seen the side spend around £130 million on Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo.
So far, the only significant exit has been Marcus Rashford’s one-season loan move to Barcelona, but it’s thought the Catalan club have a buy option worth around £30 million in the contract for June 2026.
However, it’s thought that Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho will all hopefully be offloaded in the coming weeks as the club look to raise cash for at least three more additions.
Should funding allow, the club are eyeing a new goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško the reported top choice for the latter position.
United dropped interest in Rodrygo this summer
At the end of the last campaign, it was painfully apparent that Amorim needed wholesale changes up front, and the club obliged by scouring the market for new quality additions.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, one player who United had held interest in this summer was Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, with the Brazilian winger’s future unclear amid an unsettled period at Los Blancos.
Rodrygo has also been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. However, the North London club are said to also appreciate the talents of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze in the position, too.
However, despite United’s interest, Rodrygo showed a reluctance to sign for United over the other possible suitors, and there is now no chance of any move to Old Trafford for the £78-million-rated “destroyer” winger.
United made the right decision about Rodrygo
There is little doubt that Rodrygo has talent, as Real Madrid do not buy and do not start players without high quality in attack.
However, forgoing the Brazilian winger in favour of choosing Cunha and Mbeumo as Amorim’s new wide players was the right move to make.
United looked sloppy and behind the pace in the Premier League last season, and signing players who have already proven themselves to be some of the best in the competition does a lot to raise the levels in the squad.
Amorim’s side have already looked sharp against the likes of Leeds United, West Ham, and Bournemouth across pre-season so far. Once Cunha and Mbeumo adapt to their new surroundings and are firing in the team, their chances of success at Old Trafford far outweigh Rodrygo’s.
