7/8 duels won, 69 touches – Manchester United star’s best position is obvious, he was involved in “perfect” moment

One Manchester United star’s best position is obvious following his performances across two positions as Rúben Amorim’s men defeated Leicester City on Sunday evening.

Manchester United secured a convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City, with Rasmus HøjlundAlejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes finding the net to lift Rúben Amorim’s side to 13th in the Premier League.

Højlund broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark, slotting home from a clever Fernandes pass. Leicester threatened before the break, but Wilfred Ndidi and Patson Daka couldn’t convert their chances.

Early in the second half, Ayden Heaven was stretchered off and replaced by Toby Collyer. Garnacho had a goal ruled out for offside but soon redeemed himself with a brilliant turn and finish to double United’s lead.

Fernandes sealed the win in the final minutes with a stunning strike, capping off a dominant performance from Amorim’s men.

Dalot’s best position is obvious

As was expected, Diogo Dalot started on the left flank for the Leicester fixture due to Patrick Dorgu’s suspension, with Noussair Mazraoui on the right hand side.

However, early in the second half, the Portuguese international had to switch to the right wing-back position following Heaven’s injury as Mazraoui dropped into the back three and Collyer playing on the left.

Immediately, Dalot looked a much better player when on his more natural right side, and in the last two fixtures he has played there, he has registered a goal and assist after a period of criticism for his performances on the left.

Overall, Dalot had 69 touches across the 90 minutes, completing both of his attempted dribbles and both of his attempted long balls, as well as one of his two attempted crosses.

He also won seven of his eight attempted duels, winning his only tackle and making three clearances. Dalot made five recoveries and was not dribbled past once, committing just one foul in that time.

Dalot did well for Fernandes’ “perfect” strike

Reacting to the performance, former United defender Phil Jones was on punditry duty with Sky Sports and looked to praise Dalot for his role in Fernandes’ “perfect” finish towards the end of the fixture.

“Brilliant work from Diogo, to be fair,” Jones said when reviewing footage of Dalot skipping past Stephy Mavididi before cutting back to find Fernandes on the edge of the area.

“Did well to spot him, and this is Bruno at his best. He just takes it in stride. Perfect shot, perfect accuracy. Diogo does really well. Diogo’s got that in his locker.”

Speaking further on Fernandes’ striker, Jones said: “You just see how he stays away from the ball. Everyone’s going towards the goal. Everyone’s backing off. No one’s really picking him up.

“He takes up a really clever position on the edge of the box, and it’s a really good strike. Great finish. Keepers, no chance.”
