Manchester United could potentially be handed the perfect solution to their striker dilemma this summer, which would see Rasmus Højlund depart the club.
Manchester United’s pursuit of a new striker this summer hasn’t been successful, but there could be time for this to change with only a few weeks until the new Premier League season kicks off.
Having scored only 44 goals in the league last campaign, Ruben Amorim is desperate to exterminate his team’s goalscoring troubles with a few new attacking additions.
The Red Devils have done well to acquire Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, but are still looking for a striker to slot in between the pair.
With only Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund as potential options as things stand, United could look to offload their Danish forward to free up space for a new man to lead their line. They could be handed a huge lifeline.
Højlund could be heading elsewhere
On Stretford Paddock’s YouTube channel, The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell explains that Højlund could have a potential new suitor in Germany, which would favour United incredibly well.
“You kind of feel like Bundesliga might suit him if he were to depart,” Whitwell explained. “You know, Leipzig was another one that was mentioned to me, and obviously, they’ve got Benjamin Šeško.
“You’re sort of thinking, okay, is that some kind of workable solution there, where each club gets a new striker, but they’re kind of a little bit hypothetical at the moment.
“I just get the sense when you speak to people that the Højlund position isn’t necessarily set in stone, so yeah, still one to watch a little bit.”
Could a Højlund swap deal suit all parties?
With Sesko now seemingly being the main striker linked with a move to United, facing competition from Newcastle, could it be best suited if Højlund heads the other way?
Cash would need to be included in this swap, but it could benefit both parties and offer a unique factor that Newcastle wouldn’t be able to provide.

Many have pondered whether the asking price in excess of £60 million for Sesko is too much considering United’s restricted budget, but a swap deal would help to bring in a new striker, whilst also saving some financial resources for other positions.
The Red Devils will need to reinforce their midfield before the new season, and potentially between the sticks as well, which they would struggle to do if they were to fork out £60 million on a striker.
It is still unclear whether this possibility has any merit. Still, it would certainly be a best-case scenario for United as they look to rebuild their squad on limited resources.
