Rúben Amorim has issued his latest thoughts on Chido Obi amid an admission about the current state of Manchester United’s transfer priorities.
Manchester United are set to resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon with a pivotal showdown against Tottenham Hotspur in North London.
The two sides have already produced fireworks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, with Spurs edging a pulsating 4-3 thriller to knock Rúben Amorim’s men out of the Carabao Cup. Now, with league points on the line, both teams will be desperate for a much-needed victory.
It has been a frustrating season for both clubs, who find themselves uncharacteristically low in the table—United sit 13th, two points ahead of 14th-placed Spurs. With each side struggling for consistency, this clash could prove a turning point in their respective campaigns.
The stakes could hardly be higher. Amorim is determined to continue shaping his squad and push United forward, while Postecoglou faces growing unrest among Spurs supporters, who are beginning to question his ability to turn things around.
With tensions simmering and pride on the line, Sunday’s encounter promises to be another dramatic chapter in this evolving rivalry.
Amorim on Obi’s potential debut
Speaking to the press ahead of the club’s Spurs fixtures, the 40-year-old was asked about the potential of Chido Obi and other Academy players being drafted in before the end of the campaign.
This question came after the Danish striker scored a brilliant hat-trick against Chelsea during the latest round of FA Youth Cup games.
“I don’t want to say names. We have to be careful on that,” Amorim replied. “We have problems this week, we called some young players to be in our training. We have some data evaluation. He is one of them.”
This claim came amid Amorim understanding the need to sell some of United’s players in the summer in order to fund potential transfers: “Here is simple: to do something we need to sell players.
“My focus is to prepare the players. We need to focus on the games we have, especially the next one.”
When asked about needing to sell to buy players, Amorim continued: “You know the rules better than me, so our focus is to win these games, and then we have time to focus on that.”
