Man Utd star Casemiro denies ex-teammate “dream” reunion after ruling out transfer
Casemiro’s future at Manchester United is likely coming to an end but the Brazilian has ruled out a “dream” reunion with a former teammate.
The Real Madrid legend moved to United in the summer of 2022 as part of Erik ten Hag’s new-look midfield at Old Trafford.
He quickly built a partnership with Christian Eriksen in the engine room, with the Danish international offering the control in possession while Casemiro delivered the defensive stability needed.
A third-placed Premier League finish and Carabao Cup victory during his first season at the club showed the importance that Casemiro brought to the table.
However, the 32-year-old had an extremely poor 2023/24 campaign at United and it now appears that he will depart the club after two years.
According to Vamo Futebol, the Brazilian’s former teammate Lucas Moura is keen for Casemiro to join him at São Paulo, and he has already discussed the proposition with the United midfielder.
Both Lucas and Casemiro came through the youth system at the Brazilian club before departing for Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, respectively, to kickstart their careers in European football.
After leaving Tottenham Hotspur last summer, Lucas returned to O Clube da Fé, and he believes Casemiro should make the same decision.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the wide player said: “It would be a dream, one of the best midfielders in the world, and created here in Cotia too. Casemiro, I already said, hey, let’s go back, play a little more here together, recreate that duo!
Lucas added: “I think his situation is more difficult, he still has a contract with Manchester [United]. He has a lot of wood to burn; it’s a more delicate situation, but if he wants, we’ll try to find a way here.”
However, while it seems that the numbers of a potential transfer would not add up for the Brazilian outfit, since Casemiro still has two years remaining on his deal at Old Trafford, the midfielder has also appeared to rule out the option himself.
According to Bola VIP, the 32-year-old has totally ruled out the possibility of making the return to Brazil right now and instead sees either the Saudi Pro League or MLS as his next destination.
