Manchester United have been told they must look to sign a “brilliant” Premier League star as a replacement for Marcus Rashford this summer.

Marcus Rashford appears destined to leave Manchester United in 2025 after a revealing interview in which the 27-year-old declared his intention to embark on a new challenge.

Once the poster boy of United’s attack, Rashford’s form has dipped since his remarkable 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. Under Rúben Amorim, he has seen his opportunities dwindle, with Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes emerging as preferred options in attacking positions.

Rashford’s connection to United runs deep, having been part of the club for nearly 20 years. His debut at 18 was nothing short of electrifying, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League and another two goals against Arsenal in his Premier League bow.

Reports indicate United are willing to accept bids in the region of £40 million, making Rashford’s departure highly likely as he prepares to begin the next chapter of his career away from Old Trafford.

United told to look at Brentford’s Mbeumo this summer

With United looking to sell Rashford for a reported £40 million in the coming months and the club starving for goals, they will need to find a replacement.

While United may have found it hard to replace the Rashford that scored 30 goals in a single season, it may not be as hard to replace the player who has scored just 15 goals in the last 19 months following the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Prominent Manchester United reporter Samuel Luckhurst, who works as the chief Manchester United writer for the Manchester Evening News, recently explained that he feels the club should be going all out for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo amid their need for a new attacker.

“Mbeumo is another player mufc should be going all-out for in the summer (if they’ve not gone down),” Luckhurst explained on X.

“A goalscorer, a worker, can play in a front three or on the wing, well-versed in playing in a back-three system and contract expires in 2026. He’s brilliant for Brentford.”

What Brentford could demand as Mbeumo’s transfer price

At the age of 25, Mbeumo could be a fantastic reinvestment of the funds received from Rashford’s sale as he’s already proved himself to be a Premier League star.

Since he joined then-Championship club Brentford from French side Troyes AC in 2019, he has continued to go from strength to strength, providing 56 goal involvements in 117 games in the Premier League and a total of 105 in 222 appearances for the London side overall.

However, reports last summer suggested that Brentford had slapped a transfer fee of around £50 million on the player, and after he’s scored 11 goals in 22 fixtures so far this campaign, this may increase.

But, with his contract set to expire in 2026, Brentford may be forced to sell in 2025 rather than lose him for free the summer after, which is a situation United should at least look into if Rashford were to leave.
