Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered an injury update after Portugal’s victory over Scotland on Sunday evening.

Bruno Fernandes celebrated his 30th birthday in style, scoring a long-range equaliser for Portugal after former United teammate Scott McTominay had given Scotland the lead.

This marked Fernandes’ 22nd goal contribution in his last 18 appearances for Portugal, cementing his status as one of the team’s key players.

United’s captain played the full match, which Portugal ultimately won in the dying moments when Cristiano Ronaldo, who started on the bench, scored a decisive goal from inside the box. Ronaldo found space and capitalized on a pinpoint cross from Nuno Mendes to secure the victory.

With this result, Portugal sits at the top of their Nations League group, winning both games during the international break.

Fernandes provides injury update

During the encounter, Fernandes looked to have picked up a knock but played through the pain to finish the game.

Thankfully, the United captain calmed any nerves when asked about the potential injury after the game.“It’s okay. It’s just a little bump,” he told reporters.

This will be a relief for United fans, as the last thing they need right now is more injuries, let alone to the club captain. They face Southampton next weekend when club football returns.

Fernandes had never missed any games through injury for United until last season when he was unavailable for two games through a knee issue.

Fernandes praises Scottish opponents

Fernandes went on to deliver some praise to the Scots after a challenging game. “Scotland are a very tough team, with very high-quality players; almost all of their squad play in the Premier League, and that shows in their quality right away,” he added.

“They are tough, physically strong and, what’s more, they are players who know how to handle the ball and they are very dangerous from set-pieces.

“We knew that before the match, but we ended up conceding a goal at a bad time.

“But this game shows our resilience and the way we knew how to react to adversity, coming from behind and then winning the game.

“It wasn’t a perfect day, I would have preferred it to be a less difficult game.

“It’s always rewarding to score for the national team and to win on your birthday and to be able to celebrate with Portugal, even better.”
