Who is Manchester United vs Brighton referee? Premier League confirm 71-card official
The Premier League have confirmed who will referee Manchester United as Brighton travel to face Rúben Amorim’s men at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United are set for their second outing at Old Trafford in a week as Brighton & Hove Albion travel north to take on Rúben Amorim’s side.
After a challenging end to 2024, the Reds have made a stronger start to the new year, earning a draw against Liverpool, defeating Arsenal in a penalty shootout, and securing a dramatic 3-1 victory over Southampton, thanks to a late hat-trick from Amad.
Despite the result, the performance against Southampton faced criticism, with all three goals coming during a frantic 12-minute spell at the end of the match.
Amorim will expect a more assured and dominant performance from his players on Sunday, with several adjustments to the starting XI anticipated.
The Premier League have confirmed who will officiate the fixture.
Confirmed officials
Peter Bankes (pictured below) will be the referee on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Oliver has officiated 12 Premier League matches this season as well as five more in other domestic cup and league competitions
Bankes has met United once this season, officiating the side’s 3-0 win against Leicester City in the league, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho, while Victor Kristiansen turned the ball into his own net.
So far this season, Bankes has issued 48 yellow cards in the Premier League and 71 across all competitions. He has issued no red cards but has awarded four penalties this season, all coming in the Premier League.
During the game, Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh will serve as Bankes’ assistant referees. Robert Jones will be the fourth official on Sunday afternoon, separating Amorim and Fabian Hürzeler.
Craig Pawson has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Steve Meredith will act as assistant VAR.
