Spanish media have had a field day, with reports this morning claiming Manchester United may be about to drop £25 million on a Barcelona defender.

Manchester United are in need of a new central defender or two this summer as the futures of Harry Maguire, Raphaël Varane, and Jonny Evans all continue to be foggy.

Erik ten Hag needs a long-term partner for Lisandro Martínez, who is expected to be mostly recovered from a series of unfortunate injuries from this weekend onwards. INEOS are currently building their latest list of potential targets.

Wednesday morning brought a report from Mundo Deportivo claiming that Manchester United are one of the names on the list for 19-year-old Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye.

Faye, who was signed from Croatian side NK Kustošija last summer, has not played a single minute for Barcelona’s first team, instead making 24 appearances for Barça Atlètic since he joined the club.

Barcelona must raise funds this summer to comply with spending rules, and the report claims that United believes Faye “will be the solution” at Old Trafford—which is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Sport, via Sport Witness, have then claimed that Faye has “received sirens” from both United and Bayern Munich.

All in all, it feels that the reports surrounding Faye and Manchester United are nothing more than delusional thinking on the part of Spanish papers. United do want a centre-back this summer, but Faye is far from the answer.
