The Premier League have confirmed who will officiate Manchester United’s Sunday afternoon fixture against Arsenal, and it’s a referee who has dished out 120 cards this campaign.
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon as they host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim’s men were last in action in midweek, drawing 1-1 with Real Sociedad in San Sebastián. Joshua Zirkzee opened the scoring, but a controversial penalty decision allowed the hosts to equalise.
United and Arsenal have already met twice this season. The Gunners won 2-0 at the Emirates in December, but Amorim’s side got the better of them in the FA Cup a month later, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Now, with Arsenal visiting Old Trafford for the first time under Amorim, the 40-year-old head coach will be eager to build momentum and secure another positive result against Arteta’s side.
The Premier League have confirmed who will officiate the fixture on Sunday afternoon, with United playing in a 16:30 GMT kick-off fixture.
Confirmed officials
Anthony Taylor (pictured below) will be the referee on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Taylor has officiated 24 Premier League matches this season, as well as seven in UEFA competitions and two in the FA Cup.
Taylor has met United four times this season, officiating the side’s 3-0 loss against Liverpool at Old Trafford earlier this season, as well as the brilliant 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad.
The Manchester-born official was also in charge of Amorim’s first game as United’s head coach, the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in November, and the 1-0 win over Fulham in January
So far this season, Taylor has issued 71 yellow cards in the Premier League and 111 across all competitions. He has issued four red cards and has awarded 12 penalties this season, nine coming in the Premier League.
