Rúben Amorim is expected to field a full-strength squad as Manchester United make the trip down to North London to face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.

Manchester United begin their journey to defend the FA Cup with a visit to North London to take on Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Last May, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo found the net in the final, helping Erik ten Hag’s side secure the trophy at Wembley Stadium.

Eight months later, the team are now under the leadership of 39-year-old Rúben Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag after his dismissal in October. Amorim’s tenure has seen a mix of results but also moments of encouragement.

When United last faced Arsenal at the Emirates in December, the Gunners took advantage of two corners to seal a win. However, United’s performances against top teams on the road have received considerable praise.

Amorim drops hint over Rashford squad decision

Amorim has dropped a hint that Marcus Rashford will not be involved in United’s squad that travels to North London this weekend.

On Wednesday morning, United’s players stepped into the winter cold as they prepare for the crunch clash, but it has been reported that Rashford did not train with the group and instead had an individual session.

Rashford missed United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield due to illness, as confirmed by Amorim, and was reportedly training away from the main cohort because he is still recovering, hinting that Amorim does not expect him to be fit to face Arsenal.

Aside from Rashford, four others players missed the Liverpool clash and are not expected to return to the squad in time to face Arsenal.

Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, and Victor Lindelöf were all missing from the Merseyside trip, although Amorim stated that the latter two are close to returning to the squad.

Mason Mount is back on the treatment table for the third time this season after suffering a hyperextension that hurt his hamstring last month, and is not expected back until March.

With no further fitness concerns after the Liverpool draw, Amorim’s expected to therefore name an unchanged squad.
