Manchester United told to ditch “useless” star amid injury return and secure Premier League replacement
Manchester United have been told they must drop a “useless” star once his competition returns to fitness before securing a Premier League replacement this summer.
Manchester United’s players have struggled to maintain consistent form this season, with frequent changes in systems and staff disrupting their rhythm.
Some, like Matthijs de Ligt and Alejandro Garnacho, thrived under Erik ten Hag but have found it difficult to adapt to Rúben Amorim’s demands, producing a mix of strong performances and underwhelming displays.
Even those who have excelled in Amorim’s setup, such as Lisandro Martínez and Amad, have experienced dips in form before injuries ended their campaigns early.
Meanwhile, typically reliable figures like Bruno Fernandes and Noussair Mazraoui have also endured stretches of inconsistency, drawing criticism despite their usual dependability.
United must sign Onana replacement
Another player with a significant dip in form is goalkeeper André Onana. At one point, he was at the top of the Premier League clean sheet charts but has since made a string of poor errors that have left fans wholly unconfident in his performances.
Speaking to Danish site SpilXperten, former United defender Paul Parker believes that second-choice Altay Bayındır should get a chance in goal once he returns from injury.
Further, Parker demanded that the club must look to sign Leicester City shot stopper Mads Hermansen this summer as a permanent replacement.
“In an ideal world, Man United should buy a new goalkeeper to replace Onana,” Parker said. “He’s just not good enough, and I don’t think he even looks like a goalkeeper at all.”
“Right now, I think Bayindir should get a chance, but in the long run, the club should go for Mads Hermansen, who has single-handedly kept Leicester somewhat afloat this season.”
“I think he has it all. He’s a fantastic shot-stopper, he’s good with his feet, and he has a strong attitude. As a centre-back, I would be scared to have him behind me, but in a good way, because he has such a strong aura.
“The problem is probably that the goalkeeper position won’t be a priority for a new signing, as there are so many other issues in other positions that need strengthening.”
Parker labels Onana “useless”
Continuing, Parker went on to make comparisons between the Cameroon international and his predecessor David de Gea, who departed the club in 2023 with Ten Hag wanting to instate Onana as his new first-choice goalkeeper.
“I can’t help but think about why the club let David De Gea go,” Parker said. “It was a really disgraceful way they parted with him after he was named Player of the Year three times in a row, and right now, it looks even more ridiculous because his replacement is so useless.”
“Another thing I really don’t like about Onana is his mentality. It doesn’t seem to bother him when Manchester United concedes a goal.
“You never see him standing there shouting or scolding his defence, like De Gea or Peter Schmeichel always did. For them, keeping a clean sheet was a matter of life and death. It meant everything to them.”
