Manchester United handed double injury boost as Amad and Lisandro Martínez news surfaces
Manchester United have been handed two injury boosts amid updates about Amad and Lisandro Martínez.
Rúben Amorim’s first three months at Manchester United have been anything but smooth since taking over from Erik ten Hag.
Appointed in mid-November with United struggling in 13th place in the Premier League and managing just one win in the Europa League, the 40-year-old set out to rebuild a club in disarray.
There have been encouraging signs, including impressive away victories over Arsenal and Manchester City, but inconsistency remains a concern. Under Amorim, United have won 10 of their first 20 matches, losing eight and drawing two.
Off the pitch, challenges have been just as demanding. Three senior attackers left on loan during the winter transfer window without replacements coming in, while Lisandro Martínez will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury and Amad has been ruled out for the foreseeable future with an ankle problem.
However, there have been positives. United strengthened at left wing-back with the signing of Patrick Dorgu, while 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven has joined as a promising prospect for the future.
United handed Amad boost
On Saturday afternoon, news broke that Amad had suffered damage to his ankle ligament, with suggestions being that the Ivorian international may be out for the rest of the season.
However, with United confirming the injury in their club statement on Sunday morning, they refused to say whether Amad would be ruled out for the season or not, suggesting there may be hope he can return.
The club stated that the player would be “out for a number of weeks” rather than for the rest of the season.
“We can confirm that Amad has sustained an ankle injury in training that is expected to keep him out for a number of weeks,” the club said on social media.
Martínez confirms surgery completion
Meanwhile, Martínez has confirmed that he has undergone a successful surgery on his knee, and that the operation went off without a hitch.
“Today, after going through several stormy days where I allowed myself to feel and accept my sadness, helplessness, insecurities, fears, and a deep emotional imbalance, I am reconnecting with my essence and my values, which help me see things from a kinder and more positive perspective,” he said on social media on Saturday evening.
“I feel immense gratitude for the incredible work and support of Man Utd, Argentina, my family, friends, team-mates, and everyone who took the time to send me a message of encouragement.
“The surgery went perfectly!! Now it’s time to give it my all, with heart and soul, in the rehabilitation process.”
