30 touches, 19 passes – Manchester United are about to make a hefty summer profit after one star’s performances
Manchester United are about to make a hefty profit on one of their recent shining players after another solid performance against FCSB in the Europa League.
Manchester United are looking to offload several players in the January transfer window as they seek to generate funds ahead of a pivotal summer.
Rúben Amorim’s side have made a solid start to 2025, winning five of their seven matches, though a 3-1 defeat to Brighton remains a sour note.
Despite clear gaps in the squad at left-back, in midfield, and in attack, United’s transfer business had been slow. However, they have reportedly secured deals for Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal, both of whom will strengthen Amorim’s defensive options.
Amorim has reiterated his desire to keep most of his squad intact, but the club remain open to departures before the window closes. Loan moves are expected to account for the majority of exits, with Antony already sealing a temporary switch to Real Betis for the rest of the season.
Bayındır has been shining under Amorim
Under the Portuguese boss so far, almost every United player has had their moments of triumph as well as their moments of doubts, with only Amad and Noussair Mazraoui having been able to consistently shine in the team.
However, a resurgence story that United fans are starting to notice is that of Altay Bayındır, who has played well during his three appearances across 2025 so far in goal.
The Turkish international has been used in the Europa League and FA Cup while André Onana has been a mainstay in the Premier League, and has conceded just one goal across those three ties.
Against FCSB, Bayındır had a relatively quiet game, having 30 touches of the ball but still making 19 passes, stopping three efforts on goal, recovering the ball twice and making two of those saves from shots inside the area.
However, after his disastrous performance against Tottenham Hotspur last month, many thought that the 26-year-old was destined for an early exit from the club in January, but this is not the case, and United will likely benefit in the summer.
United set to make hefty profit on Bayindir
Bayındır was signed from Turkish SuperLig club Fenerbahçe on a four-year contract, with the club retaining the option to extend this and paying £4.3 million to sign him in the summer of 2023.
Bayındır came in just months after André Onana had joined to replace David de Gea, and although he was touted as someone who would seriously challenge the Cameroon international, this didn’t materialise, and he made just one appearance under Erik ten Hag before the Dutchman was sacked.
However, he has since played six times since, twice under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s temporary tenure and four more under Amorim. With goalkeepers such as Aaron Ramsdale commanding multiple fees of over £15 million, it’s hard to believe Bayındır could not do the same next summer.
Reports from December explained that many within Old Trafford believe that Bayındır is “simply too good” to remain as a second-choice goalkeeper, and many would agree that while he may not be elite, Bayındır is more than capable of being a first-choice goalkeeper in a top five league.
United will hopefully command around £15-20 million from his likely sale in the summer, but even if they don’t manage to reach the £20 million mark, they are set to make a hefty profit on the player after his £4.3 million purchase in 2023.
