Man Utd already have £55m solution to make sure Chido Obi does not repeat “broken” Rasmus Højlund mistake

Manchester United already have a £55 million transfer in their sights that would stop Chido Obi from facing the same fate as Rasmus Højlund.

Following Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, Rúben Amorim was keen to point out that, without goals, the club would never be able to progress if his team do not start scoring more goals.

“We have to score goals,” he declared to the press after the full-time whistle. “We need to improve in that area of the game clearly.

“If you don’t score goals, you don’t win games. I think the biggest problem is the lack of goals. We are not scoring. We are creating chances, but we are not scoring.

“I think it’s also the moment [why we’re missing] sometime,s but I don’t know how to explain. But we need to improve in that area.”

Amid this, it has been well documented that the club are looking to bring in several attacking reinforcements in the coming summer market.

Why aren’t United scoring enough goals?

With respect to United’s lack of goals, the finger has mostly been pointed at United duo Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho, with the attacking pair having a total of 18 goals between them.

To put this into context, United’s top scorer has almost as many as the two combined, with Bruno Fernandes sitting on 17 strikes this season.

Amad, who has missed large parts of this season due to being out of favour or injured, has nine – one more than United’s striker, and one fewer than Garnacho, who has played 847 more minutes than the Ivorian international.

Although it is easy to blame this duo, the more nuanced and accurate answer is that there is not enough experience in United’s front line to be able to cope with the stress and weight of pressure that comes with such a turbulent time at Old Trafford.

Had this duo had an experienced attacker to help shoulder the burden just as Fernandes has and guide them through this rough patch, United would have many more goals to their name and Højlund and Garnacho would be able to play with more freedom, as young players should.

United already have a £55m solution

United are said to have a new transfer policy of signing young players in good value-for-money deals rather than splashing the cash on high-level signings, but their best possible solution to the issue at hand is signing Victor Osimhen this summer.

While United have been linked with 21-year-olds such as Liam Delap and Benjamin Šeško, Osimhen’s signing is set at a transfer fee of around £55 million this summer.

Højlund, who Alan Shearer recently explained is now “broken” after being left hung out to dry with no experienced player to learn from, has suffered greatly from the lack of a mentor, which is a mistake on United’s part.

The club currently have 17-year-old Chido Obi waiting in the wings as a future first-team player, with the Danish starlet proving himself to be a formidable striker in the Carrington Academy, and United must sign Osimhen to make sure that Obi does not suffer the same issues that Højlund has.

Obi has regularly taken part in United’s first-team training sessions, and being able to train and shadow a star striker such as Osimhen will allow him to grow and understand the demands of playing for a team chasing league titles and pushing for European glory, avoiding the mistake United have made by not supplying Højlund with the same nurturing environment.
