One Manchester United starlet has been tipped to make their debut under Rúben Amorim following a “statement” international performance earlier this week.
Manchester United’s March international break featured a number of their key players going head-to-head as the Nations League hit its climax and the road to the 2026 World Cup began.
Five Reds were involved in the two-legged Nations League quarter-final between Portugal and Denmark. Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes came out on top, getting the better of club teammates Patrick Dorgu, Rasmus Højlund, and Christian Eriksen.
Elsewhere, Manuel Ugarte featured on Tuesday night as Uruguay were held to a draw by Bolivia, while Noussair Mazraoui started both of Morocco’s victories over Niger and Tanzania.
Matthijs de Ligt received a late call-up for the Netherlands and made a brief appearance, playing four minutes in the first leg — enough to earn a special recognition as he marked his 50th international cap.
Biancheri puts in statement performance for Wales
While many of the first team were out competing at the highest level for their respective countries, a host of the club’s Academy talent also departed to their international sides at youth level.
Harry Amass delivered an assist for England’s U18s, but it was Gabriele Biancheri who stood out as Wales’ U19 squad defeated Turkey 3-1 on Tuesday evening.
The United talisman, who has netted 17 goals in 25 appearances for the club Academy this campaign so far, was on the scoresheet once again as he tapped in a simple effort after a smart run into space.
The 18-year-old has now scored eight goals in his last ten appearances for the Welsh U19s squad and will no doubt be on the radar of first-team coach Craig Bellamy, while it’s hoped that Biancheri will be upgraded to the U21s national side in June.
Biancheri tipped for possible United debut
Biancheri is not just gaining recognition at international youth level, but is also starting to grab the attention at club level, too.
Earlier this year, United rejected a bid from Serie A side Como for the player, and as commented by UnitedInFocus, it would be a surprise if Biancheri is not involved with Rúben Amorim’s first-team squad before the end of the season.
Following his stellar campaign with the U18s and U21s so far this season, it seems odd that the Welshman has not been at least involved in first-team training.
While a debut for the club in the run-in of the Premier League season would be fantastic to see, Biancheri is sure to get his chance when United travel for pre-season.
Other star Academy striker Chido Obi may not be involved in pre-season if he is selected for Denmark in the U21 World Cup, and this may supply Biancheri with the perfect chance to make an impression and make his first-team debut for Amorim.
