Man United ‘working intensively’ to replace Erik ten Hag favourite who Ruben Amorim won’t use
Manchester United are ‘working intensively’ to replace an Erik ten Hag favourite who Ruben Amorim will not use this season.
Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United began with a draw against Ipswich Town, followed by a Europa League triumph over Bodo/Glimt earlier in the week.
His next challenge is a Premier League encounter with Everton, with the new head coach desperate to get more points on the board.
The 39-year-old has started to assess his own squad in recent weeks and he will be starting to get a better idea of who fits into his system.
United working to find Eriksen replacement
According to a report from Sky Germany, Christian Eriksen will be shown the exit door at the end of the season, with his contract running out in June 2025.
The club have no intention to offer the midfielder a new deal and he will leave for free when the season concludes.
Sky Germany adds that the Reds are ‘working intensively’ to bring in a new midfielder to bolster their ranks and are open to signing a new number six/eight or an attacking midfielder.
Erik ten Hag signed Eriksen at United in the summer of 2022 and he was crucial during his first season in charge.
While he experienced difficulties last term, Eriksen once again found his form under the Dutchman at the beginning of this season, starting eight of his final nine games in charge.
Eriksen unlikely to play under Amorim
It is unlikely that Eriksen plays a significant role under new boss Amorim despite starting in his first game against Ipswich Town.
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton is far from convinced that the Dane and Brazilian partner Casemiro will be in Amorim’s plans going forward.
“There was a lot of excitement over the way they started his first game in charge, against Ipswich, but blimey you have got a problem if the Tractor Boys are out-playing you, which is what happened in the end,” Sutton told the BBC.
“I think the reality is hitting home about Amorim using his favoured 3-4-3 formation with their current squad – especially with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in midfield.”
