Manchester United’s limited budget for a number nine seems like it will stop them from signing Victor Osimhen this summer.

Osimhen, 24, had a stellar campaign last term and is one of the hottest prospects in European football. His 26 Serie A goals propelled Napoli to the league title for the first time since 1990.

United have had reported interest in the Nigerian forward and former Napoli midfielder, Salvatore Bagni, has stated that Old Trafford is just one of two destinations that interest the striker.

“Osimhen won’t return to France because he already played there,” Bagni told Tutto Napoli. “He doesn’t go to Liverpool or Chelsea because they do not play in the Champions League.

“Of all the teams associated with him, for me, he would only go to Manchester United and Real Madrid. He’s not interested in the other teams.”

However, United’s budget this summer means that any move for the Napoli forward would be highly unlikely.

Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News has stated that United have a maximum of £65 million this summer to spend on a striker.

Mason Mount looks like he will be the first signing for Ten Hag this summer. That deal comes to £55 million, with an additional £5 million in silverware-related add-ons.

United will also need to replace David de Gea if he does not extend his contract. Andre Onana looks to be the primary option and various reports place his price around £40-50 million.

Player sales could mean that United can raise additional funds for a no.9, however, with prior reports claiming Osimhen’s price being well over £100 million.

Instead, the likeliest option seems to be United signing young talent Rasmus Hojlund, who has previously explained that he is a Man United supporter.
