Man United vs Rangers: Three players to watch out for, including shock option
Manchester United face Rangers in their second pre-season friendly this weekend before Erik ten Hag’s side jet off to the United States.
The Reds travelled to Norway last weekend to play Rosenborg in their first game since the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
With just a handful of first-team players in the squad, a youthful side was beaten 1-0 after a last-minute winner, but the game provided some important minutes on the pitch for the players.
Now, with several first-team players expected to return for their trip to Scotland to face Rangers, Ten Hag’s side will look to move into another gear ahead of the pre-season tour in America.
With that being said, UtdDistrict has chosen three players that you should be keeping an eye out for in this game.
Amad Diallo
Amad Diallo missed the last outing in Norway but will likely be involved in facing the Scottish Premiership side that he spent the 2021/22 campaign with on loan.
It was an unsuccessful spell for Amad, who struggled to break into Rangers’ starting team, but he has since had an excellent season at Sunderland and proven himself to Ten Hag.
The Ivorian is expected to have a more prominent role at Old Trafford next term and he will be keen to impress once again in pre-season.
Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho will appear in a game for Manchester United for the first time since August 2023. I’m shocked, you’re shocked, we’re all shocked.
It almost seemed impossible for the 24-year-old winger to return to Old Trafford after his extremely public falling out with manager Ten Hag, but here we are.
Their problems are behind them, and the Dutch manager will include Sancho in the squad to face Rangers.
It’s no secret that even before Sancho was exiled from the first-team squad, he wasn’t exactly pulling up trees at United after his £73 million move in 2021.
But there is still talent there, and the optimist in me wants to see Sancho succeed at the club. There’s a lot of work to be done, however, and that starts this weekend.
Harry Amass
After dusting off the cobwebs in the second half against Rosenborg, Harry Amass will likely get another chance to impress Ten Hag and potentially in a stronger team.
The left-back is the best-placed academy star to push on and become a regular in the first-team squad next season, partly due to the problems at left-back over the past year.
He was not quite able to show off his talents against a dominant Rosenborg last week but will remain an exciting prospect to watch throughout pre-season.
