Manchester United issue Mason Mount injury statement as star makes brutal admission
Manchester United have issued a statement following the news that Mason Mount has suffered yet another injury setback.
Mount, 25, joined United last season from Chelsea but had an incredibly difficult debut campaign at Old Trafford due to various injuries.
He played all of pre-season this summer, started the Community Shield and both of the opening Premier League games.
But the midfielder was brought off at half-time in the latest encounter against Brighton with a concern, and it has since been revealed that he suffered a hamstring issue.
“Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has suffered a minor injury setback that is due to keep him out of action for a few games,” a club statement read.
“The no.7 was substituted at half-time of last weekend’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion, where he had started for the third consecutive match this season.”
While the club statement did not specify the length of time Mount would be absent, reports from The Athletic have stated that it will be between four and five weeks.
Last term, the midfielder missed 27 games due to injury, more than in any other season he has played since turning professional.
Mount addressed the situation himself after reports emerged. The midfield star admitted that he expects fans to be frustrated with his situation after being out injured so much last season.
“During the last game, I picked up a minor muscle issue,” Mount wrote on his social media channels this Thursday.
“I’ve had it checked, and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.
“I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”
