Man United legend tells Casemiro to change one thing to refind ‘world-class’ form
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has had a difficult start to the new season at Manchester United like many of his teammates.
The Reds currently sit in eighth position in the Premier League table and have won just one out of their opening three Champions League games in their group.
Casemiro joined the Old Trafford club at the beginning of last season and was crucial to success in Erik ten Hag’s first season at the club.
A third-place league finish was complimented by Carabao Cup victory, and the former Real Madrid midfielder scored the opener in the final against Newcastle United.
On the surface, Casemiro’s stats show an impressive start to the season. With four goals and two assists, he has more goal contributions than any other United player. Yet, it is the other side of his game that has seemingly dropped off a cliff.
The Brazilian has become much easier to bypass at the base of midfield, which has caused several issues for the team, and in particular, the backline.
Former Red Dimitar Berbatov believes that the veteran midfielder will regain his world-class form but at 31 years of age, he must adapt and be smarter in his approach to Premier League games.
“He’s set high standards for himself, so it’s up to him to continue to prove to everyone that he’s the player that people know he is,” said Berbatov, when speaking to BetFair.
“Time is going by and he’s getting older, so he needs to be smarter in how he plays the game, how he approaches games, how he reads the game.
“I hope he’s back fit as soon as possible as he’ll bring that maturity and calmness of reading and knowing the game. He’s still a presence that you can count on.
“Don’t write him off so quickly because he deserves to be given more time even when he’s not playing well. He’s a world-class player.”
