A former United icon has recently made comments regarding Manchester United’s midfield and how the impact of one player’s form improving could transform the Reds.
Former Manchester United captain and icon Bryan Robson, when speaking to Grosvenor Casinos, was very complimentary to United midfielder Casemiro, whilst being asked about the current state of United’s squad, and could be quoted as saying:
“I really like Casemiro. I think he’s a great reader of the game. He’s a great passer of the game, and he’s got a bit of toughness about him.”
As well as this, Robson was also eager to praise the talents of United academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, saying:
“I also really like Kobbie Mainoo as a young player, and I think he’s got outstanding ability and could come on and be a real force for us this year.”
In addition to this, Robson was quick to highlight the impact that one of United’s midfielders could have on the side when he eventually comes into “top form”.
How Bruno Fernandes’ form could transform Man Utd
Despite the recent upturn in United’s form, with the Reds unbeaten in their last four matches, winning three and drawing one, Robson still felt United could have another gear to go up to if Bruno Fernandes’ performances continue to improve.
“If you look at us at the moment, Bruno Fernandes has been brilliant the last two seasons, but he’s had a slow start to the season.”
“So hopefully when Bruno comes into his top form, that’s going to make us a really dangerous team.”
With the captain’s recent performances playing an integral role in United’s recent victories, fans will be hoping the Portuguese star can continue to impact games for United despite playing a deeper midfield role, where he has not played as much during his time at United, with some fans arguing he is still better suited to a more advanced role in the team.
Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has continued to impress despite playing in a deeper position, with him becoming one of United’s main outlets during the team’s build-up, whilst still chipping in with match-winning moments of brilliance.
Midfield reinforcements still needed
Despite being very complimentary towards United’s midfielders and already being “quite happy with Man United’s squad”, Robson did also choose to acknowledge the importance of strengthening the team’s midfield.
“If we’ve got the money to improve, I think I’d be looking for another central midfield player who can maybe get box to box and score a few more goals.”
Robson is not alone in thinking that United’s midfield could require an overhaul, with the club already drawing up a list of options ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
With names such as Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, and Angelo Stiller being heavily rumoured, it’s safe to say United won’t be short for choice going into the summer, with Rúben Amorim hoping he will be able to add more quality to this United squad to help take them on the next step in their journey back to the top of English football.
