Man United “intensify contact” with Bundesliga star after transfer deadline set
Manchester United have “intensified contact” with one Bundesliga star, with a potential transfer deadline set for the defender.
The Reds will be expecting to be busy in the summer transfer market, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be keen to change some things at Old Trafford.
Whether under Erik ten Hag or another manager, defensive changes are needed in the transfer market.
While the major concern is at centre-back, United could also do with upgrades on the flanks. Jeremie Frimpong is one high-quality option that has been linked.
The Bayer Leverkusen star has stood out for his offensive role in Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten team this season. He could offer United something different on the right side.
According to SportBILD, United have recently ‘intensified contact’ for the Bayer Leverkusen defender, but a transfer decision is yet to be made on him.
The report added that there are several other suitors for the right-back, who also are increasing their efforts to get the Dutchman.
A decision could need to be soon, however, with the report later explaining that Frimpong’s release clause expires before the start of Euro 2024.
That clause values the defender at around £34 million. After the season he has had, Leverkusen would likely skyrocket that price if no team meets the deadline for his release clause.
It was added that United’s competitors have also not completely decided on a move. None of the suitors have ‘made a transfer decision’ at this point, the report stated.
Leverkusen, understandably, would like to know Frimpong’s future soon, with the defender’s potential departure meaning plans will be changed at the German club.
