Man United fans awaiting ‘fascinating’ Ruben Amorim decision vs Ipswich Town – there’s one potential clue
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton believes that Manchester United fans will be awaiting a ‘fascinating’ decision from Ruben Amorim against Ipswich Town.
Ruben Amorim started his work at Manchester United last week and has since began training on the grass with his new squad.
The head coach will be starting to assess the players and determining who fits into his new-look system he’s planning to implement.
With the first Premier League game on Sunday against Ipswich Town, ahead of a busy winter schedule, there will be several important decisions Amorim is debating.
Sutton says ‘fascinating’ Amorim decision awaits
Former Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton believes that it will be ‘fascinating’ to see who Amorim starts as the wingbacks in his team against The Tractor Boys on the weekend.
With the options of wingers like Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo or fullbacks such as Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, Sutton wonders how Amorim will approach the situation.
None of United’s wide players seem like natural wingbacks, so he will have to experiment.
“Playing this this whole new system, the 3-4-3, it’ll be interesting to see how certain players fit into the system,” Sutton began while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.
“Is he going to play is he gonna play wingers at wingback, or is it going to play fullbacks at wingback?
“Is he gonna play Mzraoui there and Dalot? Is he gonna play Garnacho there or Diallo?
“I mean it will be fascinated to see what what his first team looks like.”
One potential clue
Amorim’s first United training session saw him use Antony and Tyrell Malacia as the wingbacks. One natural winger and one natural fullback.
At Sporting, he would often use at least one and usually two players who would be considered as wingers.
However, he may also be wary that United are not going to be able to be as dominant in the Premier League as his Sporting side were in Portugal.
It seems most likely that we will see one natural winger and one natural fullback in the wingback situations, as shown through his first session with a limited squad.
However, the Portuguese manager has already shown his ability to adapt to different opponents, so we could expect there to be changes in that wingback area across the campaign.
