Man United duo slammed for ‘Under-12s’ mistake as key staff member ‘set for sack’

Two Manchester United players have been slammed for their recent mistakes under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United have endured a challenging start under Ruben Amorim, managing just four wins in his first 10 games in charge.

The Portuguese head coach is gradually implementing his system, resisting the win-now mentality that has defined previous managerial reigns.

Amorim acknowledges that this approach may result in short-term setbacks but remains confident it will pave the way for long-term success at Old Trafford once his vision is fully realised.

However, United currently find themselves languishing in 14th place in the Premier League and are on a three-game losing streak.

Many players have failed to properly impress under the new head coach and could have uncertain long-term futures at the club.

United goalkeepers slammed for corner mistakes

United’s poor defending from set-pieces knows no bounds at the minute.

The Reds have conceded 10 set-piece goals in the Premier League this season and eight of the 19 conceded under Amorim have also come from set-pieces.

Despite this, it is hard to believe that United managed to concede directly from a corner twice within the space of a week.

Altay Bayindir stepped up first as he allowed Son Heung-min to know United out of the Carabao Cup with a last-minute winning corner.

Then, André Onana allowed the exact same to happen to him during the 2-0 defeat to Wolves, as Matheus Cunha’s corner swung right over him and into the back of the net.

While there are arguments that both goalkeepers could have had fouls ruled against them, everyone can agree that they also simply needed to be stronger.

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has laid into the goalkeeper duo after they made what he described to be ‘Under-12s’ mistakes.

“I am not concerned about Ruben Amorim getting the sack but it really does not help when your goalkeeper keeps on conceding goals direct from a corner – that is under-12s stuff,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“I remember it happening when I was watching my son play when he was about 15 and he got done off a corner. I told him you would never see it happen to a professional goalkeeper, but it has happened twice in two weeks. You could not make it up.”

United’s chief goalkeeper scout ‘set for sack’

It has been claimed by a report from Footy Insider that Amorim has been left far from impressed by his goalkeeping options at Old Trafford.

The report explained that United chiefs are set to sack chief goalkeeping scout Tony Coton, who has been a long-serving staff member of the club.

Coton worked at Old Trafford as a goalkeeping coach between 1997 and 2007 before returning to the club as the chief ‘keeper scout in 2020.

There have been reports linking Onana to a potential exit, while Bayindir is set to leave the club in 2025 after minimal game-time since his 2023 arrival.
