Man United considering transfer for Erik ten Hag favourite, provided major boost
Manchester United have received a transfer boost for a player that Erik ten Hag appreciates and would like to sign.
According to Sky Germany, the Reds are closely monitoring Matthijs de Ligt’s situation at Bayern Munich this summer.
The report went on to explain that Erik ten Hag is still a big fan of De Ligt, who he managed during his stint at Ajax.
De Ligt has struggled to cement a place in Germany and the aforementioned report stated that he will be allowed to leave Bayern for a suitable offer in the coming months.
Ten Hag’s former defender left Ajax in 2019 when he joined Juventus as one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe.
A mixed time in Italy led to his transfer to the Bundesliga in 2022, but he is not considered a key player at the German club—he played less than 2,000 minutes across the season last term.
De Ligt could see a reunion with his former manager, Ten Hag, as a chance to reignite his career.
Speaking in 2022, De Ligt hailed the Dutchman as a ‘really good’ coach and backed him to succeed at United.
“He is someone who loves his job, and he loves to work,” said De Ligt. “He’s really into the details. This makes him a really good trainer. He has a lot of qualities (to succeed). We will have to see how he goes.”
