An English football journalist has shared his insight on the latest surrounding Manchester United transfer target Antoine Semenyo.
David Ornstein, current football correspondent for The Athletic, has shared information regarding a possible January move for the Bournemouth winger.
Manchester United have had their eye on Ghana international Antoine Semenyo, with a transfer for the 25-year-old in the new year looking increasingly likely.
Semenyo has had an incredible season so far under Andoni Iraola, managing to put one past Ruben Amorim’s side in a recent visit to Manchester, as well as being the third top goal scorer this Premier League campaign.
With the January transfer window approaching and Amorim eager to create a trophy-winning side, fans and pundits alike are becoming incredibly fond of the idea of seeing Semenyo in a United kit.
Is Semenyo transfer likely?
Ornstein shared his opinion on the potential transfer, stating, “Everything I’ve learned suggests that a transfer is highly possible.” Semenyo has a £65 million release clause active in January.
He continued: “The names that are emerging as leading contenders are Manchester City and Manchester United, in no particular order. They’re both extremely fond of him.”
With United’s rivals also having expressed their interest in the striker, it’s no secret that the club will have to impress the player with their project as they did for the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
United have an extensive list of targets this season; however, more reports are beginning to note United’s interest in Semenyo, with the potential move igniting hope in the fans that Amorim’s side will finally live up to its potential.
How will Semenyo fit into Amorim’s system
Amorim has shown he favours a 3-4-4 formation at Old Trafford, a system that Semenyo could slot into very well.
Semenyo is an unpredictable player, something Amorim’s starting 11 is craving. With his direct attack, Semenyo will be able to add a newfound edge to United’s wing, offering both width and pace to the squad.

Semenyo also helps to provide versatility to the team sheet. With the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as two of United’s wide options, Semenyo wouldn’t come in and displace them.
Having him as an option would help create competition on the wings and flexibility for Amorim to make changes to his formation during matches.
